The Balvenie | Double Wood | 12YO, 40% ABV

@TheBalvenie Double Wood 12, a sophisticated and thoroughly enjoyable stalwart Speyside dram!

Finding myself with a great feeling of being home, with this Balvenie as a comforting companion.

APPEARANCE: golden, light amber; resembling light mahogany.

NOSE: wow, this dram has one of the most intricate noses. Oak, nip of spice, and an enticing sweetness of rich milk chocolate, tart raspberries, vanilla, lavender, heather honey, dried apricots, toffee apples, and of course, that infamous Sherry influence. This dram is the epitome of a classic, Speyside whisky!

PALATE: delectably smooth, with a pleasant mouthfeel. Initially quite sweet, with notes of heather honey, toffee, apple skins, and the bitterness of dark chocolate, accompanied by a warming spice; black pepper and cinnamon. A delightfully long, sweet, oaky, malty finish, with Bourbon and Sherry influences. This dram has me yearning for a coorie in by the fire on the deck, or with some dark chocolate and a good film, on a dreich night.

This warming, rich and complex malt, doubles as a guilt free dessert in a glass – a perfect after-dinner dram!

Sláinte! 🥃
