It’s #WhiskyReview time! ☺️
Ledaig 10, the dram which will always remind me of my Whisk(ey) Wifey, @ReeceSims.
I first met Reece at Vancouver’s Hopscotch Festival, back in November of 2019, when she introduced me to Ledaig, @Bunnahabhain, and @DeanstonMalt‘s whiskies. I’m sure I made a statement with my bedazzled cane Michael (…, get it?), or, maybe we just clicked over our mutual adoration for the spirit, which brought us all together. Whisky, you are truly wonderful!
Thank you @KellyJordanHamilton for this serendipitous gift! ❤️
Colour | glistening auric gold, with pallid blonde hues.
Nose | in the first instance, there’s is an undeniable coastal influence. Kippers are accompanied by a medicinal antiseptic, with a dusting of soot and old fishing boat ropes. Malty aromatics come to the fore, alongside fragrant blooming yeast in a wooden washback vessel, treacle, a light sprinkling of demerara, and cherry blossom shoe polish. This dram is very much a beach bonfire in a glass, with the coastal and peat ascendancy. The prominent maritime notes are reminiscent of my seaside hometowns, Helensburgh, and White Rock.
Palate | a gratifying rich and creamy mouthfeel, with a mild Szechuan peppercorn tingle – this dram has an intriguing balance of salty, sweet, and peat. A coastal salinity is met with a malted peat smoke, brittle and bitter treacle toffee, and the spice of freshly cracked black pepper. There is a great deal of complexity here, as more flavours reveal themselves; smoked Ayrshire bacon in a well-fired Morton’s roll and an Arbroath Smokie with a thin trickling of salted caramel.
In all honesty, this dram would pair PERFECTLY with a bowl of Cullen Skink from The Shores restaurant, located in a wee village in the Lochalsh, Plockton. 🥰
Sláinte! 🥃
