Happy #WhiskyWednesday, friends!
I’d like to share my thoughts on this unique dram with ewe all, the Committee 20th Anniversary limited edition @Ardbeg Blaaack, non chill-filtered and bottled at 46% ABV! 🐑
Colour: warm amber, with a copper influence.
Nose: the nose is complex and intense. Initially, there are rich meaty notes of black pepper rubbed, well-charred meats, accompanied by a thick plume of peat smoke! Nosing again is an entirely different experience; bonfire toffee, tart dark cherries covered in ash, Clootie Dumpling, old wet rope, bladderwrack, and smoked Ayrshire Bacon.
Palate: POW! The initial Szechuan peppercorn tingle is succeeded by a peaty punch to the tastebuds! This dram has a light and pleasant, oily mouthfeel. Great complexity on the palate; there is a distinct pepperiness in tandem with a wave of saltwater and hickory smoked meats. An unexpected sweetness on the palate reveals itself; salted caramel and dark chocolate, with brûléed sugars, malt and coffee. I’m really appreciating these sweet and savoury qualities!
This could very well be one of my favourite Ardbeg expressions, though I think I say that every time I am exposed to another offering! 🤤
