Swear Jar | Rye, Wheat, Barley Blend | 6 YO, 40% ABV

#CanadaDay is a week from today, so I thought for this #ThirstyThursday I’d enjoy a tipple from the other coast of this beautiful country, a Newfie offering!

@SwearJarDistillers multi-grain blended whisky is comprised of a mixture of Rye, Wheat, and Barley, and bottled at 40% ABV.

Yes b’y, time for a review!

APPEARANCE: brilliant amber, with warm auric hues. Great legs, by the way! 😉

NOSE: pleasant and inviting aromas, are accompanied by a distinctive peppery heat – virgin oak, perhaps? The nose is fairly straightforward with hints of oaky vanilla, dried fruits, and warming festive spices. Freshly grated ginger is served atop salted caramel, with a rich butterscotch drizzle and a suggestion of malt.

PALATE: the mouthfeel is velvety smooth, with a warming Sichuan peppercorn kick. The palate is more subdued than the nose; sultanas tossed in demerara, a trickle of treacle toffee, hay, candied pecans coated with cinnamon and cloves, and Butter Tarts. The finish dissipates swiftly, with notes of malt, oak, and bowl of Weetabix cereal with sliced banana.

Not overly complex by any means, this is a very easy drinking dram which would be perfect for whisky novices looking to discover what the Canadian Whisky world, has to offer.

This tipple would also make for a great base spirit, in a whisky cocktail! Maple Whisky Sour, anyone? 🍁

PS. Yes, Zara was wanting in on the whisky-tasting action, too. I may or may not have an “Alky Dug”. 😂

Sláinte! 🥃
