Tamdhu | 15YO, 46% ABV

@TamdhuWhisky is a distillery which I’ve been familiar with for many years, and was one of the first drams I was ever really exposed to. There are a few distilleries that I will always have a soft spot for, and Tamdhu is most definitely one of them!

When I think of ‘Tamdhu’, I’m reminded of watching Star Trek with my Dad, whilst he’d sip and savour his then favourite tipple, the beloved Tamdhu 10. I always recall him commenting on how this whisky was such great value for money, and he’d often recommend it to other shoppers, perusing the Whisky aisle.

Last year, @KensingtonWM in Calgary posted about a Limited Release Tamdhu 15YO, and I knew I’d have to get my hands on a bottle, or two! I grew up in a household where spontaneity was the norm, so, the following day I hopped in my convertible and headed East on a 10 hour road trip, to Calgary! 🙃

Anywho… that was a longwinded and rather convoluted intro to my Tamdhu 15 review. So, let’s get on with it then! 😂

APPEARANCE: deep golden amber; reminiscent of a good, strong cuppa tea.

NOSE: talk about a sherry bomb, wow! 💣 Stunning depth and complexity on the nose; sultanas, brandied cherries, orange zest, velvety homemade custard, demerara, malted barley, cinnamon spiced stewed Bramley apples, and dense Dundee Cake. 🤤

PALATE: beautiful rich and oily mouthfeel, with a mild Sichuan peppercorn buzz. This dram is simply divine; shaved almonds and marzipan, dried fruits, distinct sherry influence, citrus pith, treacle, malt, demerara and warming spices (cinnamon and clove, in particular). This offering is the epitome of a brandy soaked and flambéed, Iced Fruit Cake.

This truly is liquid dessert and comfort in a glass.

To sum this one up – pure quality! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
