Monkey Shoulder | 40% ABV

Monkey Shoulder in Malibu! Not anticipating an acrimonious acromion, it would appear I’ve found a cheeky wee chimp.

Monkey Shoulder, It has been a while, but this was a pleasant reintroduction! Cheers to this simian sample.

APPEARANCE: diluted amber, resembling pine sap.

NOSE: first impression; distinctively malty, citrus rind and pine. Allowed to open further, the nose changed to brûléed sugars with butterscotch and hints of vanilla. Brings to mind Tradtional Scottish Christmas Cake..

PALATE: smooth, easy drinking tipple. Vanilla Prime Times spring to mind! It’s a confusion between a suggestion of smoke or toasted barley, accompanied with caramels. The finish is decidedly sweet with a pronounced tobacco influence, which unfortunately is not a sustained note.

Straightforward with maybe a femininity, that I or other Lassies could appreciate, but a lot of Islay fans might find lacking a punch.

This wee cheeky monkey is perfect neat, OR, in a whisky based cocktail.

Sláinte Mhath! 🥃
