On to thou’ #WhiskyWednesday review…
APPEARANCE: faint blonde hue, with beautiful clarity.
NOSE: initially, there are a lot of phenols, but they won’t have me scurrying! There’s a distinguished sweetness on the nose; Madeira Cake, dried fruits, brandied cherries, sea salted caramels, and cinnamon laced Treacle Scones. A plume of Highland smoke arises, accompanied by toasted hazelnuts, white pepper (virgin oak influence?), star anise, and black liquorice.
Did someone just open a bag of Allsorts? 🤤
PALATE: a tongue coating, oily mouthfeel is met with an intense tingling (Szechuan peppercorn) sensation – wow! Heather honey meets Highland peat, the perfect sweet and smoky symbiosis. The sugared flavour profile is made up of heather honey, sultanas, vanilla, demarara, salted caramel, and custard. Suddenly I have a hankering for Pastéis de Nata and Vanilla Crème Brûlée. In tandom, there’s a bitterness, that of citrus pith, which is succeeded by that earthy Highland peat, barley, Weetabix, and malt. Sweet vanilla custard, warming spices, malt, and rich peat, make up the pleasant and warming, lingering finish.
A braw wee deoch an doris, indeed!
