Bowmore | 12YO, 40% ABV

@Bowmore 12, the Islay whisky miniature I enjoyed so much, I went out the very next day and purchased a full-size bottle!

Here’s my review of this beautifully complex, maritime malt.

APPEARANCE: golden amber, with yellow hues.

NOSE: the nose is rather complex, but subdued. The buzz of freshly grated horseradish, with notes of straw, brûléed sugars, and dried fruits, accompanied by the peat smoke and coastal salinity I was expecting. The nose progressively developed into an addition of salted caramel, yeast and malt.

PALATE: a pleasant coastal salinity, complemented by citrus fruits, vanilla extract, caramel and a lighter Islay smoke. Rich and creamy mouthfeel, followed by the sensation of pepper, oak (possibly also an influence from the bourbon barrel), and a curious bitterness akin to treacle toffee. An extruded finish of maritime salinity, malt and peat.

I was definitely encouraged by what I had in my glass. A delightful little dram, and definitely another one for the girls and I to enjoy with a box of dark chocolate Himalayan Pink Salt Caramels, and a chick flick.

Sláinte! 🍫🎬🥃
